The Poteaupré Inn is located 9km from Chimay and 300m from Notre-Dame of Scourmont Abbey in the small village of Forges.
The Inn

The Poteaupré Inn has 3 different roles :
- Unfortunately, it is not possible to visit the Chimay Brewery. Chimay Experience invites us to discover the history and treasures of Chimay trappist beers and cheeses.
- It owns 7 rooms***. 75€/night during the low season. 10€ more per night during the high season + 10€ for breakfast.
- At the restaurant, you could order different local dishes. But mostly, you have to try the perfect pairing of Chimay beers and cheeses.
The Beers

During my visit, I tasted 4 different Chimay beers and cheeses.

Chimay Gold (4,8% alc.vol.)
A pure malt beer noted for its golden color and slightly cloudy appearence with touch of hops and spicy aromas.
Try this beer with the “Poteaupré” creamy cheese.

Chimay Red (7% alc.vol.)
The Chimay Red Cap or “Premiere” in 75 cl bottles is the oldest of the Chimays. With it coppery colours, it gives off a slightly fruity aroma of apricot.
Try it with the “à la Chimay Rouge” cheese. It tastes of apricots and peaches with a hint of bitterness. As written in its name, this cheese is washed in Chimay Red Cap.

Chimay Triple (8% alc.vol.)
The Chimay Triple, last-born of the Abbey, is labelled “Cinq Cents” ont the 75cl bottles. Of a golden colour, the Trappist beer combines sweet and bitter in a rare balance.
Try it with the “Chimay Grand Cru” cheese and its intense taste coming from the 4-week maturation process.

Chimay Blue (9% alc.vol.)
The Chimay Blue Cap, baptized “Grand Reserve” in 75 cl bottles is a dark Trappist beer with a powerful aroma. For sure, it is one of my top 5 best beers in the world.
Try it with the “Grand Chimay” cheese. and discover its mild taste and smooth texture.
